This should cover it

X Wall Paper

Tim says:

When two words are used together often, they sometimes come together and make one word. That’s what has happened here: “wallpaper” should be one word.

O Wallpaper

My eyeballs don’t need waxing!

Blow wax (photo by Tim Young)

X Brazillan Wax/Eyeblow Wax

Tim says:

At first I noticed the misspelling of “Brazilian”, because that was on the big sign in front of the shop, too. But this other sign in the window revealed an even bigger mistake!

Changing the “r” to an “l” completely changes the meaning. Instead of getting your 眉毛 waxed, suddenly we have the mental image of getting wax blown into your eye! That sound pretty uncomfortable! Even painful!

Keep in mind that the vowel sound (母音) in “brow” (“brau”) is different from the one in “blow” (“bloh”).

Emergency Sign Repair

Water Supply Station for Emergency (photo by Tim Young)

X Water Supply Station for Emergency

Tim says:

The grammar of this phrase is a bit odd. “Emergency” is a countable noun, so it should be “an emergency”, but that still doesn’t quite sound right. “For use in an emergency”? “For emergencies”?

Actually, on a sign like this, we would usually use “emergency” as an adjective!

O Emergency Water Supply Station

Don’t stake your life on their spelling ability

Stake (photo by Tim Young)

X Stake

Tim says:

WHAT?! This one is so bad, it surprised even me! Even though “steak” is spelled correctly on the awning above this sign, somehow they ended up with “stake” (杭;利害関係) on this sign! How does such a mistake even happen?! I want to “meat” the person who made this “misteak”!

O Steak
