First of all, we would say “The police”, not just “police”. (In some cases, “police” without “the” might be used in news reporting. But seldom in conversation.)

“The police” refers to a group of people, so it is treated as a plural form. Therefore, “is” is also wrong.

はい、ひとりひとりの警察官は police officerの他、階級によって sergeant, lieutenant, captainなどとなります。ちょっと古いですが「刑事コロンボ」は”Lieutenant” と呼ばれていましたね。
